Mortgage foreclosures down in SE Wisconsin

Posted on October 11th, 2011 No Comments

Mortgage foreclosure filings decreased in September in southeastern Wisconsin.

According to documents from Milwaukee, Kenosha, Racine, Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha, and Walworth counties, foreclosure filings were 30 percent lower last month than a year before.  In total, there were 866 mortgage foreclosures in southeastern Wisconsin in September.

For the first 3 quarters of 2011, foreclosures in the area are 15.6 percent lower than the number filed in the same time period last year.

In Milwaukee County, a total of 641 foreclosure filings were recorded in September 2010 and 474 in September 2011.  Filings in the county experienced a 26 percent year-over-year decrease.

Experts believe the area’s lower unemployment rate may be the reason for the decrease in foreclosure filings.
