As more Wisconsin homeowners struggle to pay off their mortgages, foreclosure filings in Wisconsin set a one-month record. In July, there were 2,729 filings, a 52% increase from July 2008, according to ForeclosureAlarm.com
The previous record high of 2,706 occurred last November. Economists cite rising unemployment as the main driver of increased foreclosures. Although the state employment rate figures for July have not been released, the unemployment rate was 9.2%.
