Borders Group Inc., owner of Borders and Waldenbooks bookstores, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week.  Borders Group Inc. is based in Michigan and while some of its stores will continue operating during the bankruptcy process, the company plans to close around 30 percent of its stores.

The list of stores closing includes 200 of its 642 stores across the U.S.  All three Borders locations in Milwaukee are on the list to be closed, as well as a location in Madison.  One of the closing locations is downtown on W. Wisconsin Ave., one is on S. 76th Street and another is located on N. Port Washington Road in Fox Point.

The bankruptcy filing states that Borders’ customer loyalty program and gift cards will operate as usual.
