Bankruptcy filings down in year ending June 2011

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts recently reported that only 19 out of 94 districts in the country experienced increases in bankruptcy filings in the year ending June 2011.

Some districts that saw an increase in bankruptcy filings included the Southern District of Florida and the Central Districts of Utah and California.

Overall, total bankruptcies filed in the U.S. in the year ending June 2011 were 2.7 percent lower than the number of bankruptcies filed in the year ending June 2010.

Chapter 11 filings experienced the biggest decrease of 11 percent.  Chapter 12 filings decreased by 9 percent, Chapter 7 filings decreased by 4 percent, and Chapter 13 bankruptcies decreased by 2 percent.
