Based on the number of bankruptcies filed so far this year, 2010 bankruptcy filings in Wisconsin are expected to be higher than the number of filings in the state in 2009.  The number of bankruptcies filed between January and September of this year are almost 12 percent higher than the number filed in the same time period last year.  The majority of filings are Chapter 7 bankruptcies.

Statistics show that more self-employed and small businesses are filing for bankruptcy this year.  Job sectors that have seen an especially high rate of bankruptcies include flooring contractors, landscapers and plumbers.  From January to September in 2010, there have been 20,982 bankruptcies filed in the state of Wisconsin.
